The MAX30101ACCEVKIT is an evaluation board from Maxim Integrated that is designed to measure the characteristics of the MAX30101 integrated optical bio-sensor. It enables developers to easily test the performance of the sensor in a variety of applications in the medical, fitness/health, and consumer markets. The MAX30101ACCEVKIT utilizes an innovative ultra-low power, digital heart rate (HR) and SpO2 monitor module that detects the pulse signal from user’s fingertip and computes heart rate and SpO2 (percentage of oxygenated hemoglobin in arterial blood).

The MAX30101ACCEVKIT is a complete system and includes a MAX30101 sensor, a low-noise amplifier and at least two LEDs which can be used to measure the user’s heart rate and SpO2. The two LEDs emit light to the user’s fingertip, which is absorbed by tissue and reflected to the sensor for optical sensing. The sensors measure differential absorption of the light at two different wavelengths, which is converted to a digital value that can be used to calculate the user’s heart rate and SpO2.

The MAX30101ACCEVKIT board interfaces directly with a single-board computer to provide a maximum of 32-bit accuracy. The device enables developers to create their own applications using Maxim’s API. It is also supported by Maxim’s companion PC software that shows the real-time data from the MAX30101ACCEVKIT both graphically and numerically. The PC software also provides a range of signal processing functions including peak detection & heart rate/SpO2 calculation.
