The MAX3521EVKIT# consists of the MAX3521E dual-channel USB 2.0 transceiver, a daughter board with a socketed MAX3521E chip, a power adapter, a USB 2.0 cable, a MAX3521E data sheet, and a 16-bit expansion board. This kit allows for easy evaluation of the MAX3521E\'s operational characteristics and performance allowing engineers to develop custom applications with the use of the provided 16-bit expansion board. The expansion board provides an output voltage range from 1.2V to 5.5V and is perfect for application prototyping, while the expandable MicroSD memory card slot allows for non-volatile data storage.
The MAX3521EVKIT# uses Maxim’s integrated, low-power, eight-bit microcontroller to provide a complete USB 2.0 solution. The transceiver core supports full-speed (12 Mb/s) transmission and provides all the functionality of a full-speed-only transceiver. The microcontroller core runs the firmware required to support a USB 2.0 host port and the SPI interface, which is used to control the underlying USB 2.0 transceiver core. This firmware and peripheral management functions and clock circuits can be written by the user in assembly or C code. This eliminates any hardware design effort, as the power, clock, timer, interrupt, I/O and USB functions are built into the board.
The MAX3521EVKIT# is an ideal prototyping tool for demonstrating, developing, and debugging USB 2.0 applications. The USB 2.0 packet transmitter and receiver perform the necessary data-link layer functions required for transferring data between devices, while the microcontroller takes responsibility for formatting the data, keeping track of which packet is next, and controlling signal timing. The development software provided includes example code to quickly get the user up and running and to aid with the design of USB 2.0 applications. Additionally, the kit can be used as a reference board by simply connecting it to a PC, tablet, or smartphone.
