The MAX3094ECSE+ is an I2C full-featured bridge between a host processor and the I2C Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C). The device enables host processors to interface with I2C devices quickly, easily, and securely. It provides critical error-checking and protection functions that greatly increase the reliability of Inter-IC (I2C) communications. This device also provides an innovative on-board register that can store up to eight I2C slave address and Byte count values. Offering easy I2C bus configuration and strong security features, the MAX3094ECSE+ makes it easier for users to develop I2C applications.

Application Field

The MAX3094ECSE+ is ideal for use in industrial I2C communication. It provides protection against errors in I2C communications caused by incorrect configuration, erroneous transactions, or incompatible/conflicting transactions with multiple masters on the bus. The device features high-stability, low-power I2C bus voltage source and advanced I2C arbitration logic. With strong bus-level protection and data format validation, the MAX3094ECSE+ ensures a consistent valid data on the I2C bus, making it ideal for manipulating large control data along with other devices.

Working Principle

The MAX3094ECSE+ provides a generic I2C bridge between a host processor and an I2C peripheral. The bridge is comprised of two main components: a I2C slave port and an I2C master port. Each port has separate input and output direction control lines that can be used to select which port provides data to the I2C bus at any given time.

Communication through the MAX3094ECSE+ is bi-directional and is initiated when a write request is sent from the host processor to the I2C slave port. The MAX3094ECSE+ also supports I2C bus arbitration and clock stretching features, ensuring that the I2C bus remains quiet and that data is exchanged correctly. In addition, the bridge has a built-in watchdog timer to help prevent I2C bus lock-ups, and an on-board register to store up to eight I2C slave addresses and Byte count values, allowing the bridge to store information about the I2C devices connected to the I2C bus.
