Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UARTs) is an interface technology designed to enable serial communications between microcontrollers and other digital devices. The MAX3109ETJ+ is a high-performance UARTs which integrates a high-speed serial interface and a sophisticated, programmable serial data communications protocol controller. It is the first UARTs that supports the 3.3V LVTTL, LVCMOS, PCI and USB power supply rails, and is configured to meet the multiple data rates for maximum data transmission and reception.

The MAX3109ETJ+ uses a four-wire, parallel-bus topology, consisting of two signal lines, two clock lines and two control signals, to communicate between either two or four devices, depending on the application.
