The MAX3162ECAI+ is an integrated transceiver that combines a low-power receiver and a charge-pump transmitter, which enables true voltage-level translation without the need for external components. This product is designed to operate between 3.3V and 5V logic levels, allowing ASICs and FPGAs designed for logic levels to be used with the UART protocol. As a driver, the MAX3162ECAI+ can drive up to 120mA and each receiver can accept up to 32mA, allowing it to be used in applications such as factory automation and embedded systems.Because of the bidirectional nature of the device, it can be used in point-to-point or many-to-many applications. In addition, the MAX3162ECAI+ has two configurable pins for bidirectional enable control, providing additional flexibility for system designers.The primary application field for the device is in systems with different logic voltage levels. It is suitable for general I/O design and can also be used in applications such as RS-485 and RS-232 communications. Its internal charge pump generator eliminates the need for external power supply components, allowing it to be used in tight spaces and reducing the number of components and assembly time in the system. The low-power, 5V tolerant receiver of the MAX3162ECAI+ allows it to be used in applications where connected signals may be 5V or higher.The MAX3162ECAI+ works by controlling two pins called low enable (LE) and high enable (HE). The LE and HE pins can be thought of as direction selectors for the device, designing input and output signals and defining whether the device is acting as a driver or a receiver. When both LE and HE pins are logic low, the device is disabled, so no data is sent or received. When the LE pin is logic low and the HE pin is logic high, the device is configured as a receiver and will accept data from the higher logic state (5V). When the LE pin is logic high and the HE pin is logic low, the device is configured as a driver, sending out data on the lower logic state (3.3V).The internal charge pump generator is designed to provide sufficient power to drive the MAX3162ECAI+ and any connected devices.
