Working Principle
The MAX3185CAP+ works on the principle of voltage level translation. It uses two drivers, receivers, and transceivers in order to convert the signal levels between a 5V bus and a 1.8, 2.5, or 3.3-V logic system. The device has an internal voltage-level shifting circuit, which is able to provide accurate and reliable level-shifting between two different voltages.
The device features two receivers, two drivers and two transceivers. The receiver converts the voltage level of 5V logic at the input side to a 1.8-V, 2.5-V or 3.3-V logic level at the output. The drivers convert the input voltage level on the source side to the voltage level of 5V-logic at the destination side. Finally, the transceivers are used to provide a bi-directional logic-level translation between the two-voltage levels.
The MAX3185CAP+ provides excellent performance with fast switching speed (up to 16Mbps) and low propagation delay, allowing the device to support high-speed data rates. In addition, it also offers excellent noise immunity with 3.2V thermal shutdown protection.
The MAX3185CAP+ offers hot plugging capability. It can detect a hot plug event within a maximum of 5μs. This allows the device to be safely connected or removed from a live bus without damaging either the device or the system. In addition, the device features a 3.2V over-voltage protection (OVP) to protect against excessive voltage conditions.
