MAX3222CAP+
The MAX3222CAP+ is an advanced dual-channel RS-232 line driver/receiver designed to operate with very low supply voltages. It has low power consumption, wide-voltage operation, an internal oscillator, a thermal shutdown feature and an internal 0.1µF charge-pump capacitor. The MAX3222CAP+ is ideal for multivoltage applications, such as +5 V and 3.3 V applications, and easily replaces the MAX232C and MAX232E devices.
The MAX3222CAP+is a dual-channel RS-232 line driver/receiver optimized for applications requiring low-power consumption, wide-voltage operation and small package size. The MAX3222CAP+ operates from a single 2.7 V (typ) supply to +5 V (max). It is pin compatible with existing RS-232 logic levels, and supports data rates as high as 120 Mbps. The MAX3222CAP+ can replace industry-standard MAX232C and MAX232E devices

Working Principle
The MAX3222CAP+is a dual-channel RS-232 line driver/receiver optimized for applications requiring low-power consumption, wide-voltage operation and small package size. It operates from a single 2.7 V (typ) supply to +5 V (max). The MAX3222CAP+ operates using the following five states: high-impedance output, high-impedance input, low-impedance input, low-impedance output, and standby. In the high-impedance output state, the drivers are off and the device consumes very little power. In the high-impedance input state, the receiver pulls the voltage high, and the driver is disabled. In the low-impedance input state, the receiver pulls the voltage low. In the low-impedance output state, the drivers drive the voltage low, and in the currently inactive channel, the receiver pulls the voltage low. In the standby state, both drivers are disabled, the receiver is off, and the device draws very little power.
The MAX3222CAP+\'s fully differential driver circuit minimizes data edge-rate distortion, maximizes the data-valid window, and reduces EMI/RFI. To reduce the EMI/RFI noise, the device provides a half-rate driver, which switches the output between high and low on each rising edge of the data. The low-power standby mode is provided by a shut-down pin, which can be used either in the data stream or to manually place the device in standby. The device also provides an internal voltage-level setting curve, allowing the user to select between low and high voltage levels. The device features two internal 0.1µF charge-pump capacitors.
The MAX3222CAP+ is highly robust, with a thermally enhanced package to improve thermal dissipation, as well as a thermal-shutdown feature to protect the device in the event of excessive temperature rise. The device also provides excellent ESD protection and on-board EMI/RFI filters for optimum protection.
