The MAX3223CDB is an integrated 3.0V to 5.5V RS-232 translated transceiver. It provides an interface between a Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) and an RS-232 port. The path for connecting the charge pump components is provided by an internal N-channel MOSFET (NMOS) device. This device is used to eliminate the traditional external level shifters.
The MAX3223CDB features an integrated TxD translation circuit which allows for UART driven logic levels up to 3.6V. This maximizes the amount of level shifter components and only requires an external 10nF capacitor. Additionally, the MAX3223CDB also contains a 200mA current-limiting circuit, which prevents accidental damage in case of an over-current situation.
