The MAX3226EEUE+ line receiver from Maxim Integrated is an ESD-protected, 5.5V powered, Slew-Rate-Limited, 16-pin RS-232 transceiver that offers the single-supply operation and low power dissipation required in a space-constrained environment. Designed for applications requiring RS-232 connectivity, the MAX3226EEUE+ can be used in mobile devices, point-of-sale (POS) systems, building automation, data acquisition, and wireless communication systems, as well as any RS-232-based application.

The MAX3226EEUE+ Application Diagram shows the basic setup of the device and how the signal IO lines are connected to the interface. The ESD protection circuitry is designed to protect both the RXD and RXG pins. To ensure reliable communication over long cable lengths, the MAX3226EEUE+ features a slew-rate-limited driver for both its TXD and TXG pins. The slew rate is user-selectable, allowing for selection of slow (up to 250Kbps data rates) or fast (up to 1Mbps data rates) slew rates.
Additionally, the driver section contains an intelligent power-down mode, which is enabled when either the RXD or RXG pin is disabled. This feature helps reduce power consumption in low-power systems, as the drivers will be turned off when the device is not in use. The power down mode can also be used to prevent data loss in the unlikely event of a power failure.
The MAX3226EEUE+ device is designed for use in harsh environments, and its low power draw and ESD protection makes it ideal for high-speed, low-power applications.
