The MAX3227EIDB is a universal, low-power, and 3V to 5.5V RS-232 transceiver. It allows a broad range of users to support the full +3.3V 5V RS-232 interface. The product combines the versatility of an RS-232 transceiver with fully integrated power supplies and, when necessary, it is 5V to 3V signals for lower power applications. It is designed to optimize power performance, using only 0.1μA of static current and 0.2μA of shutdown current, while providing the industry’s highest receiver sensitivity and lowest transmit levels, in order to support high speed serial data communications up to 450kbps.

The MAX3227EIDB features a power-down mode that reduces current consumption to 0.2uA. This feature helps extend battery life in computers and other portable electronics, and also helps reduce EMI emissions. By combining low power consumption with low EMI emissions, the MAX3227EIDB is an ideal transceiver solution for many mobile and handheld applications.

The MAX3227EIDB provides two separate driver output buffers and two separate receiver inputs, allowing it to be used as an TTL-level UART to replace 5V V.28 Analog communications. It is also compatible with 3-state and 5-state devices. Its driver outputs can sink up to 25mA of current, reducing the need for external pull-up resistors. The MAX3227EIDB is available in an 8-pin SOIC package and is provided with built-in ESD protection, making it well-suited for high-speed serial applications.

The operation of the MAX3227EIDB is simple and easy to understand. On the transmitter side, it contains a differential driver output that is used to transmit serial data over two differential signals (one true and one complement).
