Introduction
MAX3232ECWE+T is a universal transceiver developed by Maxim Integrated. It makes use of a single +5V power supply, is fully Slew Rate Controlled, no external components required and is configured for RS-232 communication. The MAX3232ECWE+T is the perfect solution for applications requiring an efficient interface between devices such as microcontrollers and PCs, two-way communication systems, printer interfaces, modems and a variety of other data transfer applications.Types
The MAX3232ECWE+T comes in two types: The MAX3232SE33, which has a Scan/Transmit power supply range of -7.0 to +12.0V and the MAX3232ECWE+T, which has a Scan/Transmit power supply range of +3.3V to +5.0V. Both types have a ProgrammableTransmit Detect Voltage set by one external resistor.Application Field
The MAX3232ECWE+T is primarily designed for use in systems where the interface is required to operate from 3.3 to 5.0V and provide an interface between low-speed devices (such as microcontrollers, modems and printers) and high-speed devices (such as PCs and other computers). This is accomplished through the use of a Built-in Slew Rate Controlled Transceiver, Programmable Transmit Detect Voltage, Built-in ESD Protection, Integrated Power-supply Decoupling, Serial Interface Loopback and Half Duplex With Reception Booster.Working Principle
The MAX3232ECWE+T operates in a half-duplex mode, which allows transmission and reception to occur over a single line. It has two pairs of equal mechanisms - drivers and receivers. Each of these pairs is individually adjusted to transmit and receive data over the input and output lines, respectively. The drivers act as transmitters and the receivers act as receivers. In addition to this, the MAX3232ECWE+T also has a built-in ESD protection and Integrated Power-supply Decoupling that helps protect the interface from outside forces.When the device is enabled, the drivers output the signal to the input line, the receivers accept and store the signal on the output line, the Programmable Transmit Detect Voltage can be used to determine the signal voltage level and the loopback enables the device to loop back the signal to its own internal drives for testing purposes. To summarize, the MAX3232ECWE+T is designed for use in systems that require an interface between low-speed devices and high-speed devices.
