MAX3232IDRG4 is a low-power device from Texas Instruments, capable of providing power-efficient, easy-to-use, and reliable data communication interface between RS-232 port and TTL devices. This is a 40-pin device which includes an integrated RS-232 line driver and receiver, as well as specific TTL converter and voltage translator. The device supports industrial temperature range from -40°C to +85°C and operates on input supply voltage ranging from 3.0 V to 5.5V. MAX3232IDRG4 can support data rate of 120kbps.The simplified block diagram of the MAX3232IDRG4 is illustrated in Figure 1.
Application Field of MAX3232IDRG4
The single-channel MAX3232IDRG4 Receiver/Driver chip is a popular choice for providing an easy-to-use, power-efficient method of data communication interface between RS-232 port of computers, cell phones, and other devices with TTL logic levels. Furthermore, it is also suitable for data communication interface between GPIB devices and UARTs.The main application field of MAX3232IDRG4 includes communication link identification and communication link isolation. With the help of line drivers and voltage translator, the device is able to identify the logic levels of transmit and receive data, and thus, providing adequate communication link isolation.Working Principle of MAX3232IDRG4
The MAX3232IDRG4 tx (transmission) and rx (reception) channels provide integrated line drivers and receivers. The single-channel device is enabled using the enable pin (EN). The transmit buffer consists of a non-inverting line driver, which provides logic level conversion from TTL to RS-232 logic level. The rx channel consists of an inverting receiver to convert the incoming RS-232 logic level to TTL level.The voltage translator of the MAX3232IDRG4 chip is configured with two pairs of complementary signals (RI, NRI, RX ,NRI). The complementary signals are lower than or equal to the VCCLMT associated with the chip and they ensure that the voltage at the output side of the voltage translator is within the allowed range. The interface is completed by the supply voltage pins (VCCLMT and VDD). The supply pins provide the chip with an external power source, which provides operating voltage for the device.Conclusion
