The MAX3243EETI+ is an integrated, bi-directional RS-232 transceiver designed for easy interface to the EIA/TIA-232-F and CCITT V.28/V.24 communication standards and support data rates of up to 600kpbs. It has 15kV of ESD protection and meets ±15.8kV air ESD standards.The MAX3243EETI+ is designed for use in an array of applications such as computers, printers, modems, industrial instrumentation, and networking equipment. It contains two line drivers, two line receivers, and two charge pumps. The drivers and receivers are enabled by a logic-controlled direction control input (DIR) and can be continuously enabled with a logic high level at the DIR input. When the DIR input is at a logic low, the drivers are disabled and the receivers are enabled.The line drivers are designed to meet the minimum EIA/TIA-232F standard and the line receivers are designed to meet the maximum EIA/TIA-232F standard. The charge pump typically provides ±5V into a 47µF capacitor for the RS-232 line-driver output swing and the line-receiver input range.The MAX3243EETI+ also offers two TX power-output switches and two open-drain receivers outputs. The T+ and T– output switches can be used to power EIA/TIA-232-F receivers. These switches are enabled when the DIR input is at a logic low. The R+ and R– open-drain receivers output signals are emitted when the DIR input is at a logic low and the line receivers detect a logic high (above 0.6V) or logic low (below 0.4V). The outputs remain active for one clock cycle of the devices.The MAX3243EETI+ has a low-power operating mode for power consumption reduction. In this mode, the transmission channel is disabled, reducing the current consumption from 250µA to 15µA.The MAX3243EETI+ is ideal for applications that need to make quick transitions between drivers and receivers, as it provides fast switching times (15ns typical) due to its high-speed signaling characteristics.
