Working Principle

The MAX3245ECTX+T device operates on two principle modes, send and receive. In send mode, the transmitter is enabled, allowing the data that is written to the Transmit Data Register to be sent out on the RS-485/422 bus. In receive mode, the receiver is enabled, allowing the data received on the RS-485/422 bus to be stored in the Receive Data Register for reading by the user.

The slew rate control feature allows the user to control the turn-on and turn-off speeds of the driver outputs, reducing EMI and improving the performance of the bus. The receiver enable feature provides better noise rejection, reducing the possibility of false-activation of the receiver due to low-level noise. The transmitter is enabled when the write enable signal is active, allowing data to be sent out on the bus. The device also includes a dominant timeout feature which will disable the driver output if the line remains in dominant state for longer than the timeout value.
