The MAX3314EESA+T is a low-power, high-speed, improved electrostatic discharge (ESD) protected, true bidirectional, RS-232 transceiver. It occupies minimal board area and requires minimal external components with true bidirectional operation. With power consumption as little as 1.2mA, it is ideal for use in battery-powered and AC line−powered applications.The MAX3314EESA+T is a versatile transceiver, which enables bi-directional protocol free communication between two independently powered RS-232 nodes. This is typically used as an interface between a host and a target device, or between two independent communication links.In the MAX3314EESA+T, the transmission and reception are controlled by the switching of the transmit/receive (T/R) Line (T/R#). When T/R# is high, the transceiver is transmitting. When T/R# rotates to low, the transceiver is receiving data. The MAX3314EESA+T is a true bidirectional transceiver available in the convenient DIP8, SOP14, MSOP14, MSOP8, and TSSOP8 packages.The MAX3314EESA+T is suitable for various applications, such as industrial automation and control, factory hubs, dynamic point of sale systems, medical technology, battery powered and AC powered equipment, mobile devices, intelligent instrumentation, and communication systems. The MAX3314EESA+T allows a data rate up to 250Kbps, consumes 1.2mA (typical) or 2.5mA (maximum) of power and provides an enhanced ±15kV ESD protection on all pins. The MAX3314EESA+T can be enabled or disabled depending on the logic level of EN#. Upon power-up, the MAX3314EESA+T is in the transmit mode and can be programmed to automatically switch to the receive mode using the AUTO_RX/TX# pin. The Auto_RX/TX# pin enables the automatic switch between the Transmit and Receive mode. When AUTO_RX/TX# is high, the MAX3314EESA+T automatically switches from the receive mode to the transmit mode and vice versa when the T/R# pin is activated. The MAX3314EESA+T can be configured for multiple operating modes, including master mode, slave mode, and half-duplex mode. In master mode, the MAX3314EESA+T is the master of the communication and controls the direction of the communication. In slave mode, the MAX3314EESA+T is controlled by the external T/R# signal and will switch from the transmit to the receive mode after a valid low on the T/R# line. In half-duplex mode, the MAX3314EESA+T operates in full-duplex mode, but switches off the transmitter in the receive mode. The MAX3314EESA+T also provides an integrated 16 levels of receive line control (RLC) to improve EMI performance. The RLC feature modifies the slope of the driver outputs to reduce EMI radiated noise. In addition, the MAX3314EESA+T provides an active low driver-disable output (DIS#) to remove the driver on the transmit side; this reduces power consumption by 50 percent and improves EMI by disabling the driver.In addition to its enhanced ESD capabilities, the MAX3314EESA+T offers a wide range of features such as wide supply voltage (2.7V to 5.5V), tolerant op-amp input design, Power-on Reset feature, glitch immunity circuitry, wide common-mode (±15V) and Dynamic range (±25V). The MAX3314EESA+T provides an architecture that is optimized for low power and EMI performance, and provides the most competitive feature set for embedded RS-232 interface applications. All these features combine to make the MAX3314EESA+T an ideal solution for low power, high speed, true bidirectional, RS-232 transceiver applications. It is suitable for applications such as data acquisition systems, remote sensing systems, factory automation, point of sale systems, medical equipment, communication systems, and more.
