MAX3318IPWR is a high speed, single lane serializer/deserializer (SERDES) 8B/10B data macrocell IC from Maxim Integrated that operates with data rates of up to 10 Gbps. Working Principle

The MAX3318IPWR is a single-channel design comprised of serialize/deserializer (SerDes) stage and a clock recovery circuit (CRC). The serializer portion converts 8B/10B data into serial data. This 10 Gbps serial data undergoes an 8/24 NRZ encoding to ensure synchronization of the incoming and outgoing data streams. The serial data is then fed into the transceiver and transmitted over the transmission line.

The clock recovery circuit recovers the clock signal from the incoming 10 Gbps stream. This recovered clock is then used to clock in the incoming 8B/10B encoded data. The MAX3318IPWR is designed to provide a service integrity assurance (SIA) channel, which monitors the quality of the received signals and determines the transition points for the recovered clock. The SIA provides programmable features, such as LOS detection, LOS de-glitch, auto-de-glitch, link stability monitoring, and cable length detection.

The deserializer portion takes the 8/24 NRZ encoded information from the transceiver and converts it back to the 8B/10B encoded data. It then outputs the 8B/10B encoded data for use by the host or for transmission over another line.

The MAX3318IPWR features a low-power modes to reduce power consumption and also provides enhanced features such as soft hard error rate monitoring and diagnostic mode for system health check.
