Working Principle
The MAX3320TCAP+ is a full-duplex RS232 transceiver. The output stages consist of two symmetrical signal paths with differential buffers. These buffers provide a high level of signal quality, low distortion, low noise and low power consumption. Output current can be matched across the whole full-duplex interface range. The ESD protection latch is programmable and it can protect up to ± 25kV ESD on the line bus.
The MAX3320TCAP+ has two independent transmitter/driver channels for full-duplex operation. Each channel is driven by a data line and a control line. The control line is used to enable the transmitter. The control line is an active low signal and the data line is a 3-state line. This allows the data bits to be encoded into the logic levels of the data line and transmitted when the control line is enabled.
The receive section also consists of two independent receiver channels for full-duplex operation. The input stages feature an internal hysteresis device which helps eliminate false triggering in noisy environments and increases EMC performance. An optional circuit is also available to reduce the total EMC performance further. A low-power Schmitt-trigger approach is applied to the receiver logic to reduce power consumption.
The MAX3320TCAP+ features an internal power-saving sense circuit which can reduce the power supply current when the line is idle. An internal low power Schmitt-trigger is applied to the logic inputs to further reduce the quiescent current.
