The MAX3440EAPA+ is a high-performance, low-power, quad channel RS-485/RS-422 transceiver with Automatic Power Savings (APS). It is a fully integrated, 8-bit-wide, low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) transceiver, ideal for use in point-to-point or multi-drop applications in low voltage and high noise environments. It provides high-bandwidth data transfers, flexible control options and industry-leading power savings – up to 50% compared to competitive solutions. The MAX3440EAPA+ is able to support data transmission rates up to 1.25 Gbps, making it an ideal choice for applications requiring fast data transfer, including industrial automation networks and medical device networking.
The MAX3440EAPA+ is designed to enable automatic power savings in applications where low power consumption is critical. It uses an integrated low-power management feature that automatically adjusts the power used to meet the requirements of the application. The device will cut off power to its outputs when no data is being transmitted and reduce the time to wake up the outputs when data is being transmitted. The device is available in the 5-mm x 5-mm TQFN-14 and 4-mm x 4-mm TQFN-16 packages which are ideal for space-conscious applications.
The MAX3440EAPA+ supports both RS-485/RS-422 differential signaling for long-distance transmission or low-voltage single-ended signaling for short distances. It can be easily configured for operation in either point-to-point or multipoint communication networks, with up to 32 receivers and 32 transmitters supported. The MAX3440EAPA+ supports half- and full-duplex transmission modes, self-timed slew-rate control, and auto-detect capability for differentiating between slow bus contention and data transmission. It also has a built-in voltage overrun and underrun protection. The device supports two-level, 1-Mb/s, LVDS signaling and offers a range of integrated system level protection features such as device reset and supply voltage monitoring.
The MAX3440EAPA+ also incorporates a wide range of features to support increased performance and reliability in critical applications. The integrated ESD protection provides up to 6 KV of protection for the differential transmission lines.
