The MAX5069CASE-T is a device designed as a dual, low-on-resistance, synchronous, and step-down switch-mode buck controller. It is optimized to minimize board area, improve power dissipation, and minimize losses, which allows for higher switching frequencies and lower output ripple. The MAX5069CAUE-T is specifically designed for the DC-DC conversion market to supply power to various applications such as tablets and smartphones, portable medical and industrial equipment, personal computers and set-top boxes. It features a wide input supply range of 3.14 V to 25 V and provides a stable output voltage up to 4.5 V in a 55 mV tolerance range. The MAX5069CAUE-T also provides a maximum output current up to 5 A. Main features of the MAX5069CAUE-T
- It features a power saving standard ON/OFF pin, which allows the user to control the power of the MAX5069CAUE-T with a simple on/off control signal. - It also provides an enable logic which allows the user to enable/disable the device with a logic high/low control signal. - The MAX5069CAUE-T provides a low on-resistance synchronous switching capability, with very accurate voltage regulation, good dynamic response and output stability. - The MAX5069CAUE-T includes programmable soft-start circuit to ensure a smooth start-up and reduce inrush current during power-up. - The MAX5069CAUE-T features an adjustable switching frequency of up to 2.2MHz, allowing for very low output ripple, meeting EMI requirements.- The synchronous gate driver provides a fast transient response and high switching frequency. - The MAX5069CAUE-T also features an over voltage protection (OVP), over current protection (OCP) and thermal shutdown (TSD).How Does it Work?
The MAX5069CAUE-T supports a buck topology, wherein the high side MOSFET (metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor) is turned ON during the first portion of the switching cycle, thereby allowing current to flow from the input supply to charge the output capacitor. During the second portion of the cycle, the low side MOSFET is then turned ON, allowing current to flow from the output capacitor to the output. This cycle is repeated continuously to regulate the output voltage.The MAX5069CAUE-T includes a DC/DC converter control logic which uses an Internal feedback loop to monitor and regulate the output voltage. The control logic also monitors the output current and switches the MOSFETs accordingly to maintain the output voltage and current within limits.The MAX5069CAUE-T also uses an internal soft-start timer to ensure a smooth start-up by ramping the output voltage, and features adjustable current limit, thermal shutdown and over voltage protection, to protect the device from excessive heat or voltage conditions.Conclusion
