The MAX5091AATA+T is part of the MAX5090A/MAX5091A/MAX5092A family of voltage regulators offered by Maxim Integrated Products Inc. This member of Maxim’s voltage regulator family offers the added benefit of tracking outputs. The device is a linear low-dropout (LDO) regulator, capable of delivering up to 100 mA of output current, with an adjustable dropout voltage and Fast Transient Response (FTR) for enhanced load transient response. It is designed for use in a wide range of electronic systems and applications, including personal electronic products such as cellular phones, handheld communications devices, PDAs and portable media players, as well as laptops and tablet computers.

The MAX5091AATA+T is a cost-effective, voltage-regulator solution for applications involving a wide input voltage range. It has an adjustable output voltage range, with excellent line and load regulation and a very low, low-dropout voltage. The device also exhibits a wide range of temperature coefficient and ripple rejection, with no sub-harmonic oscillation. It also offers excellent long-term stability and a fast, 0.3 μs line transient response.

The MAX5091AATA+T features two operating modes depending on the output voltage: high-speed, low-current and low-speed, high-current. In the high-speed mode, the output voltage range is adjustable from 0.8 to 5 V, with a maximum output current of 25 mA. In low-speed mode, the output voltage range is adjustable from 0.8 to 5 V with a maximum output current of 100 mA. A track/hold function and a shutdown logic ensure robust operation over the entire operating temperature range.

The MAX5091AATA+T has many application fields, including portable electronic products such as cellular phones, handheld communication devices, PDAs and media players. It can also be used in laptops, tablets and other computing devices. The working principle of the MAX5091AATA+T is a simple one. It consists of a PMOS transistor, an NPN transconductance amplifier and an internal voltage reference. The output voltage is then adjusted by the NPN transconductance amplifier in response to the difference between the reference voltage and the output voltage.
