The MAX798ESE+T is a DC-DC switching controller used as a Voltage Regulator in the Power Management IC (PMIC) space. The combination of the VC and the reference voltage (VREFi) is then compared to a threshold reference voltage (VREF) by the voltage comparator which controls the external NMOS switch.

The PWM controller provides a controlled on-time (tON) and off-time (tOFF) of the external MOSFET switch based on the control voltage (VC). The on-time control voltage (VC) is proportional to the magnitude of the sensed output voltage (Vo) and the reference voltage (VREF). This results in the optimal regulation of the output voltage.

If output voltage reaches the defined overvoltage protection trip level, the device will enter protection mode and trigger a shutdown logic. The logic will then disable the external switch and cut off the load current supply to the system. This feature provides overvoltage protection and extended operational life for the device.
