MAX8842ELT+T is an extremely low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator. This device offers a typical dropout voltage of 40 mV, and with system transients below 100 mV. This makes the MAX8842ELT+T suitable for powering DSPs, FPGAs, and ASICs in system requiring the most stringent dropout specifications. Its low quiescent current, of 435µA, makes the MAX8842ELT+T an ideal choice for powering portable and battery-powered applications.

The MAX8842ELT+T is a fixed-output, P-channel MOSFET linear regulator with a fixed-output voltage of 1.8V. The input/output (VIO) voltage range is 0.8V to 5.5V, and the maximum output current is 250mA. The output is adjustable through an external resistor divider. It features on-chip ESD protection and can operate over an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. In addition, the MAX8842ELT+T is designed to meet the stringent requirements of commercial products. The MAX8842ELT+T is available in a tiny TDFN-8 package.

The working principle of MAX8842ELT+T is that it uses a P-channel, power MOSFET as a pass element. It consists of a standard feedback loop with an error amplifier, compensation circuit and P-channel MOSFET pass element. The error amplifier compares the output voltage and the reference voltage and provides the gate voltage to the P-channel MOSFET that is required to maintain the required output voltage. This device also provides over-current protection by current-limiting the output MOSFET.
