Working Principle of MC34064LP

MC34064LP’s structure consists of five major blocks, including oscillator, reset comparator, undervoltage comparator, output driver and power switch. The oscillator is powered by an external capacitor and sets the frequency of the reset tiemr operation. The reset comparator monitors the voltage of the power source, and when it exceeds a predetermined threshold level, it will generate a logic high signal to the output driver. On the other hand, the undervoltage comparator monitors the power source and will generate an open-drain output signal RESET when the power level drops below the threshold. When both reset comparator and untervoltage comparator are generating a logic high signal to the output driver, the output driver will continue to generate a reset signal until the delay period has passed. Finally, the power switch can prevent unwanted spurious reset signals by disconnecting the oscillator when the power source drops below threshold.
