The MCP3002-I/SN is a 10-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) used for data acquisition systems. A 10-bit ADC offers better precision than 8-bit, but at a slower data rate. The MCP3002-I/SN utilizes successive approximation conversion technique to convert Continuous Analog Signals (CASs) into 10-bits of digital output (referred to as the Digital-to-Analog Converter or DAC). The MCP3002-I/SN is suitable for applications such as data acquisition for medical, seismic, industrial monitoring and control, and audio/video.

The MCP3002-I/SN provides increased accuracy and resolution that allow for higher accuracy data acquisition systems. The 10-bit resolution enables measurements of up to 4mv of analog signal, while the low noise design allows for accurate data acquisition. The MCP3002-I/SN provides a differential input that reduces noise in applications where the analog signal is subject to noise. The single-ended input of the MCP3002-I/SN is a simple connection to signal sources and offers maximum flexibility.

The MCP3002-I/SN are low-power, 10-bit-resolution Analog-to-Digital Converters that provide up to eight channels of single-ended input and up to four channels of differential inputs. The MCP3002-I/SN two-wire serial interface permits communication between the analog signal source and the ADC. The serial interface is based off the industry-standard SPI protocol to ensure simple integration with a wide range of systems. The SPI interface is compatible with common microcontroller’s short- and long-word access methods.

The MCP3002-I/SN operates on a single supply and provides a full-scale range of 0-5V or 0-10V. The MCP3002-I/SN feature an input buffer, high level of accuracy and a low noise floor ensures maximum signal accuracy and low noise. The MCP3002-I/SN includes an optional integrated constant current source that simplifies system configuration and provides maximum flexibility.

The MCP3002-I/SN employs a serial protocol based on the SPI bus. The SPI bus is a full-duplex synchronous serial data link which uses a chip select (CS) signal to activate the slave device. The MCP3002-I/SN also has a reset line which can reset the chip to its default settings. A write pin is used to write 8 bits of data from the master (MCU) to the slave (MCP3002-I/SN). The data is read from the slave by writing a read pin and the last 8 bits of data is stored in the shift register. The data then can be read by clocking out the data from the shift register.

The MCP3002-I/SN is provided with two varieties of output formats: binary and two’s compliment formats. The output is a 10-bit value with an accuracy of 2 LSB (Least Significant Bit). The binary output format provides the user with straightforward data that is easy to process and interpret. The two’s compliment format is useful for applications that require signed values.

The MCP3002-I/SN also offers a range of features designed to improve operation and maximize converter accuracy. These include an external clock for longer integration times, multiple operation modes for optimized operation in a variety of applications, and an external reference input to enable more accurate conversion of high resolution signals. The MCP3002-I/SN also features an analog auxillary input, which can be used to monitor battery voltage, or any other voltage within the converter\'s range.
