The high level of integration and the small size of the package make this module the ideal choice for the designs requiring high performance in a small form factor. MCP3426A1-E/SN supports a wide temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. It has high accuracy and low power consumption. It has a very small footprint, requiring only 8mm² of total area and making it one of the most compact ADC in the market. The IC can integrate up to four channels and provide a conversion frequency up to 2.25Msps. The maximum power consumption of the IC is just 5mW and typically it is just 1mW.MCP3426A1-E/SN contains a high-precision, integrated differential amplifier with a programmable gain of up to 22V/V and a maximum input voltage of ±22V. This ADC features 16-bit digital input control with a low power enable, conversion enable and a 1.024Vdc fixed reference voltage. All channels have independent enable inputs which can be used to enable or disable individual channels without powering off the whole circuit. The MCP3426A1-E/SN works on switched capacitor technique. Each of the 14 AD convertor cells consists of a pair of CMOS gates, an operational amplifier and two switched capacitors (S/C) connected in series. The operational amplifier acts as the input selector. When the S/C capacitor, Cx, is enabled, it is connected to a capacitor, Cy, connected to the reference voltage of a known step voltage. The voltage across the two capacitors, Cx and Cy, will be the difference between the reference voltage and the input voltage. The comparison thus lessens the errors due to drifting of the input voltage and increases the accuracy of the conversion. The analog input is filtered out by a built-in low pass filter. Then, differential input is applied to the switched capacitor converter where the voltage is compared against a reference voltage. The results are then latched in a serial output. The range of the analog input voltage is dependent on the gain register setting.
