The MCP3426A0-E/MC is a complete data acquisition system in a single line Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA), Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), and temperature sensor. It is ideal for applications that require an isolated, low power, accurate and easy to use system. This section focuses on the application field and working principle of the MCP3426A0-E/MC data acquisition system.The MCP3426A0-E/MC is used in a variety of applications, including medical, industrial, and automotive applications. It is particularly useful in sensing, control and data acquisition systems that require low power, fast response, and accurate measurement of data from external sources. It can measure voltage, current and temperature with its integrated 24-bit Delta-Sigma ADC and 16-bit temperature sensor. Additionally, its programmable gain amplifier allows the user to customize the gain of the system, enabling it to perform in multiple applications and provide excellent signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).The MCP3426A0-E/MC data acquisition system provides an SPI interface to communicate with the external host processor. The system can be configured with the SPI communications program to enable the user to set the device to a desired signal type (analog input or temperature), gain, voltage reference and sample rate. The device can also be set to operate in a free-running mode or a triggered-start/stop mode. Once the system is configured, data can be collected and transmitted to the host processor through the SPI interface.The programmable gain amplifier (PGA) at the front end of the MCP3426A0-E/MC provides adjustable gain for the incoming signal. The user can select from five gain settings from 1 to 128 in 8-bit steps. This gain is used to scale the input signal to the voltage reference level of the ADC inside the device.The 24-bit Delta-Sigma ADC inside the MCP3426A0-E/MC is used to convert the scaled signal into a digital output. This ADC is a low-power, noise-canceling ADC that has a measurement range of 0-17.8V and a resolution of 0.04V. The ADC has a programmable filter time, which allows it to adjust its sample rate and filter time based on the bandwidth of the incoming signal. This feature ensures that only signals within the specified bandwidth are measured, thus improving the SNR of the system.The MCP3426A0-E/MC has an on-board temperature sensor that is integrated into the Delta-Sigma ADC. This sensor measures temperatures from -40°C to +125°C with a resolution of 0.0625°C. The temperature sensor is powered independently from the rest of the device, allowing it to operate in low power modes, and use the same SPI communication to send data to the host processor.The MCP3426A0-E/MC incorporates an on-chip voltage reference which sets the reference level for the ADC, allowing for a wide dynamic range and precision measurement of input signals.
