The incoming analog signal is compared to varying step sizes by a successive approximation register, or SAR. The SAR then outputs the binary equivalent of the analog signal.The MCP3301-BI/SN features an internal 12-bit SAR, as well as a voltage reference generator, and a low-noise input buffer. This internal circuitry is controlled by an internal clock and latency counter to generate a precise output digital word for a given analog input. The SAR samples the incoming signal at the rate of internal clock (which is adjustable), and increments or decrements the reference voltage in such a way that its output converges to the digital equivalent of the input analog signal.Conclusion
