MIC2164YMM-TR Application Field and Working Principle

Working Principle

The MIC2164YMM-TR is an advanced switching regulator controller. It switches rapidly and accurately between two voltage levels, providing constant voltage and/or current to an output load. The device contains an on-board 500kHz fixed-frequency oscillator that drives an internal MOSFET switch. At each switching cycle, the oscillator changes the switching rate between the two pre-programmed voltage levels, or adjusts automatically to minimize external components and minimize power dissipation. The maximum switching current is limited to 2 A, while the maximum output current is limited to 5.5 A.

The device is equipped with a 20V gate drive voltage, with full current limiting and short circuit protection. It also provides adjustable input over-voltage protection, adjustable output overcurrent protection, and under-voltage lockout. The device enables high current and voltage regulation accuracy with high efficiency through programmable current and voltage limits. The integral hysteretic synchronous intermittent control provides robust, high-performance power switching.
