The MIC2183YM is a DC-DC buck pre-regulator with integrated switching MOSFETs that is designed to drive a synchronous regulator or linear regulator. It operates from an input voltage of 2.5V to 5.5V and provides an output ranging from 0.7V to V IN – 0.7V. The converter delivers up to 2A of continuously output current, providing wider headroom for transient operations. The MIC2183YM pre-regulator incorporates a high frequency synchronous switching capability, allowing for high-density, high-efficiency power converters. Its features include internal power MOSFETs, high frequency synchronous P-Channel MOSFET switch control, integrated low R DS(on) pull down FETs and ultra-low quiescent current of 130μA. The MIC2183YM was designed for end-applications requiring maximum efficiency over a wide input voltage range, including portable medical and fitness monitoring devices, wireless sensor nodes, and wearables. With its low quiescent current, power consumption is minimized, and with its wide input voltage range, it can easily be used in industrial and home applications. The device is ideal for driving linear or switching regulators, or as an isolated step-up regulator. The application field of the MIC2183YM is generally used in almost any application which requires power conversion with high efficiency, low quiescent current, low RDS ON and a wide input voltage range. In order to maximize efficiency and performance, the device has been designed to meet the requirements of many diverse applications that range from fitness tracking wristbands to home automation. It can be used in various consumer, industrial and medical applications, including but not limited to, sensors, docking stations, IoT (Internet of Things) devices, handheld tools, and consumer electronics. The working principle of the MIC2183YM is based on the buck topology for power conversion. The device takes an input voltage, either from an AC adapter or DC battery, and converts it to a desired output voltage by switching it with an integrated high-frequency synchronous MOSFET. The input voltage is applied to an input pin, which is then provided to two P-Channel MOSFETs on the primary side of the buck converter. The P-Channel MOSFETs control the current that passes through the inductor, which is connected to the output pin. As the current passes through the inductor, it builds a magnetic field. This field stores energy, which is released as the current passes through a second pair of integrated FETs on the secondary side of the circuit. The Buck switching cycle continues and the output voltage is regulated. The MIC2183YM also provides a wide range of protection features to protect against excessive current, as well as over and under voltage. An integrated under voltage lockout prevents the device from turning on until the input voltage is above a preset threshold. Over voltage protection shutdowns the device in the event of over voltage. The device also features soft-start and over current protection, allowing the startup currents to be controlled and ramped up over time, avoiding any inrush current and preventing excessive overloads. Overall, the MIC2183YM is an ideal choice for applications requiring efficient power conversion, wide input voltage range, and high performance. With its integrated power MOSFETs and low quiescent current, it provides excellent efficiency, as well as low power consumption, making it an ideal choice for applications such as fitness monitoring and home automation.
