This IC is mainly used to control the output voltage of a step-down DC-DC switch mode power supply circuit. It is a synchronous buck dc-dc controller.The IC contains two power MOSFETs, one on the high side and one on the low side, as well as the other analog circuitry necessary to control the operation of the circuit. The IC is used in the buck configuration such that the 4.5V to 38V of the input voltage is stepped down to the required regulated output voltage of 1.2V to 32V.The main components involved in the design of a DC/DC step-down converter using this controller IC are the transformer, filter capacitor, coil, MOSFETS, feedback resister and the IC. The working principle primarily involves the controller IC controlling the gating pulses to the MOSFETs to convert the input voltage to the required output voltage.The IC sends gate signals to MOSFETs at a constant synchronous frequency. The duty cycle of the gate signal determines the voltage at the output.
