The MIC2194YM is a PWM DC/DC controller designed to enhance the performance of high frequency synchronous buck regulation applications. It provides up to 95% of power efficiency with a wide input voltage range from 3.2 to 20 Volts and up to 12A output current. Additionally, it provides safety features such as Soft-Start and Active Current Limit Protection.

The architecture of the MIC2194YM is based upon an internal reference voltage, which is divided into multiple current thresholds. These thresholds are then used to generate timing signals, which can be used to control an external field effect transistor, commonly known as an N-channel MOSFET, which bonds to the output of the system, and can be configured for either synchronous or non-synchronous termination. By controlling the ON and OFF times of the external MOSFET, the MIC2194YM is able to regulate the output voltage of the system, while providing high speed switching operation. The integrated current limit detector provides protection against short or sustained overload conditions. Additionally, the MIC2194YM features an adjustable soft-start feature, which helps to minimise the in-rush current spikes during the start-up of the application.

The MIC2194YM controller is configured via an easy to use 3-pin Serial Peripheral Interface or SPI. The SPI port provides access to a wide range of internal settings, such as output voltage reference, soft-start rate, clock frequency and duty cycle, as well as various other settings. Additionally, the SPI port provides access to the interrupt pins, which can be used to trigger an external event whenever the current limit is exceeded, or the system is about to enter a low-power state.

It is also used in industrial automation, robotics, and uninterruptible power supplies.
