The MIC3287-24YD6 EV is a precision, step-down, constant current-mode driver circuit with an external Flyback diode and external current sense resistor. It is designed to efficiently drive heavy capacitive- and inductive-load LEDs from a DC or AC input power supply.
The MIC3287-24YD6 EV is designed for applications with high power and high efficiency, such as automotive lighting, commercial lighting, and LED signage and displays. It is easy to program for adjustable LED current up to 24A, and it does not require external cooling devices to ensure long term thermal stability and reliability. The device is suitable for use in commercial and industrial LED driver applications, where reduced power losses, smaller LED light output, brighter LED display and longer LED lifetime are desired.
The MIC3287-24YD6 EV features a wide input voltage range which allows it to provide stable output currents down to zero lighting loads and high input voltage, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. It also features Cycle-By-Cycle Adaptive Peak Current Limiting, which makes it suitable for LED applications with high current requirements and varying load conditions. It also features feedback with programmable slope compensation and an adjustable current sense system. This allows not only more flexibility in LED current control but also more efficient LED lighting without LED over-current ‒ an inherent design of the MIC3287-24YD6 EV.
The MIC3287-24YD6 EV works on the principle of constant-current mode control. It operates within a predetermined peak current and provides a relatively constant current every cycle. When the output inductor current reaches a certain limit, the Switching MOSFET is disabled, and the inductor current decays until the next switching cycle. During this time, the external Flyback diode is allowed to conduct for a short period of time, and the output voltage decreases gradually until the output current returns to its predetermined peak current. This makes it possible to regulate the system’s output current more precisely and with more stability.
The MIC3287-24YD6 EV also features current sensing with an adjustable external current sense resistor. The current sense resistor is used to sense the inductor current. This allows the device to accurately monitor and control the LED output current. It also provides a direct measure of real time LED current in applications where high accuracy is required.
In addition, the MIC3287-24YD6 EV has protections to ensure stable LED current. It has a wide range of adjustable LED current, over current protection, and thermal shutdown. These features allow it to protect itself and the LEDString in case of system overload.
