The MIC4129YML-TR is a high performance monolithic gate driver designed to drive power MOSFETs and IGBTs in Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMIC)-Gate Drivers applications. This device is well suited for DC-DC converters, AC/DC converters, UPS applications, power supplies and other high power switching applications.

The MIC4129YML-TR is a versatile, high voltage, high-side power switch capable of driving external N-Channel power MOSFETs and IGBTs, while providing tight turn-on/off timing control and regulation. The MIC4129YML-TR also features internal protection features such as thermal shutdown and short-to-ground protection to ensure reliable operation, as well as an additional high current transient capability all in a 3mm x 3mm MLF® package.

The MIC4129YML-TR offers a PWM and adjustable UVLO (under voltage lock out) for precision control and operation, as well as a low on-resistance, high power dissipation, and adjustable source and sink current suitable for high power applications. As the MIC4129YML-TR features a low voltage CMOS logic input it is ideal for driving a wide range of power loads with up to 24V and up to 5A each.

The MIC4129YML-TR’s two-state output (HI/LO), operates at a switching frequency of 10kHz to 1MHz and allows the power FET and IGBTs to be switched ON and OFF quickly, safely and directly. Based on its low voltage CMOS logic inputs, the MIC4129YML-TR ensures a fast, and accurate turn–on transients, and 100ns turn-off times and fast response times to input signals. The MIC4129YML-TR also features built-in over-voltage protection, a low-input threshold (1.3V), over-temperature and over-current protection.

The MIC4129YML-TR gate driver enables the gate voltage to rise quickly, reducing interference and providing an improved system efficiency. It also eliminates the need for large external resistors, which can be expensive, bulky and difficult to size.

The MIC4129YML-TR can be used in a number of applications including DC-DC converters, AC/DC converters, UPS applications, power supplies, motor control, and other high power switching applications.

The working principle of the MIC4129YML-TR is based on the simple operation of a transistor pair converting the input signal, such as a low-level CMOS logic, into an output signal capable of driving the load. The MIC4129YML-TR is designed to drive power MOSFETs and IGBTs with a 7A peak source and 5A peak sink current capability when an external supply voltage is provided.

The MIC4129YML-TR operates with a supply voltage (VCC) between 10V and 24V and is designed to be interfaced to a below-ground logic supply. The output voltage swing is limited to a maximum of 24V, which ensures its operation even in applications with high voltage swings.

The MIC4129YML-TR utilizes an advanced process that provides low gate resistance and high-current capacity, enabling fast switching rates, improved system reliability and higher power conversion efficiency. The MIC4129YML-TR also ensures that the device can be used in applications with higher efficiency, as well as device protection functions, such as over-current and over-temperature protection.
