。PMIC or Power Management Integrated Circuit, commonly known as Power ICs, are integrated circuits capable of delivering differentiated power management functions for computing, consumer, industrial and automotive applications. Hence, these devices are termed as gate drivers. They are used for providing gate signals for transistors and power switches in electronic circuits for controlling the power switch state. The MIC4427CM is a good example of gate driver IC, which is used for providing safe and reliable gate signals for power MOSFETs.
The MIC4427CM is a high-precision gate driver IC, which is specifically designed for driving an N-channel MOSFET in the forward conduction mode of the synchronous rectifiers. This IC also features typically 6.5 V threshold voltage, programmable dead time, and voltage feedback capability. In addition to that, it also supports two types of current driving modes: a low-current mode for driving the MOSFET at low frequencies and a high-current mode for driving the MOSFET at higher frequencies.
The MIC4427CM is suitable for a broad range of applications including DC-DC converters, AC-to-DC converters, powersupplies, motor drive controls, LED lighting, and voltage-regulators. It can also be used in communications devices such as base stations, modems and routers, as well as in medical devices, instrumentation equipment, and digital set-top boxes. In these applications, it can be used for providing low-current gate signals for driving up to 500V rated MOSFETs.
The MIC4427CM works on the principle of synchronization of the internal oscillator frequency with external drivers’ frequency. Firstly, the internal oscillator generates a high-frequency clock signal. Then, the MIC4427CM compares the clock phase with the external drivers’ phase and generates the gate signals accordingly. After comparing the two signals, the phase difference between the two signals is sent back to the external drivers. Thus, the MIC4427CM works in a continuous feedback loop, ensuring that the external drivers’ phase is always in sync with the internal oscillator’s phase.
The MIC4427CM is a highly-precise gate driver IC which is ideal for providing accurate gate signals for driving MOSFETs in a wide range of applications. It has an operating supply voltage ranging from 10V to 20V and internal under-voltage lockout (UVLO) for protecting the IC from any power failures. It also has a typically 6.5V threshold voltage, programmable dead time and synchronous rectifier capability.
