Working Principle
The MIC68400-0.8YML TR utilizes a two-stage topology, which includes a high-side switch and an external pass transistor. The high-side switch functions like a switch, and its switch node is the input of the regulator. When the voltage across this node is greater than the reference voltage, it turns on and limits the current until the voltage reaches the reference. The external pass transistor is used to divide the input voltage into a regulated output voltage.
The device also features on-chip folded cascode transistors that provide extremely fast switching. The fast switching minimizes output voltage deviation during transitions, enabling the device to deliver high-speed and accurate regulation. In addition, the device uses current limit circuitry to prevent overloading and also provides enhanced output current foldback which allows safe operation during overloads. The device is also equipped with an on-chip voltage reference, providing a precise output voltage.
