The MIC69502WR-TR voltage regulator is a linear regulator integrated circuit (IC) belonging to the family of PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear. Its goal is to provide an adjustable output voltage, which is generated by a power transistor and regulated by a voltage reference. This voltage regulator is capable of providing a maximum output current of up to 1.8A with a full load from an input voltage ranging from 3V to 12V.

The MIC69502WR-TR voltage regulator accepts two input voltages : the power supply voltage (VIN), and the reference voltage (VREF). The regulator maintains a constant output voltage, VOUT, when the input supply voltage, VIN, is higher than the output voltage. The voltage reference, VREF, is used to fix the output voltage by soft adjustment. This adjustment is done by using a potentiometer to vary the voltage reference.

The most important features of the MIC69502WR-TR voltage regulator is its low quiescent current, fast transient response, and low temperature drift. The IC also features an on-chip thermal overload protection, overvoltage and current limit protections, and latch-up immunity (LBI). The low quiescent current of 20µA allows for longer battery life and less power consumed by the device.

Additionally, the fast transient response of the device is optimized by the use of an internal voltage fertilizer loop. With the use of this loop, the device is capable of maintaining a steady output voltage during the initial current surge of the load. This allows the voltage regulator to maintain an extremely accurate output voltage and limit noise during switching. The transient response of the device is specified up to 1µs.

Lastly, the MIC69502WR-TR voltage regulator utilizes an on-chip temperature compensation function. This function reduces the temperature drift by actively controlling the four bias currents that are responsible for the output voltage.. This temperature compensation loop keeps the output voltage regulated, even as the temperature changes. In summary, this feature reduces output voltage drift and ensures a stable output voltage in a wide range of temperatures.
