The MOC3052S is an optoisolator from the triac, SCR output group, built on a high-speed planar multi-die- construction process, which enables isolation of up to 4500V from the input signal to the output. The optocoupler offers a high-voltage open-collector output with solid-state input current control. This optoisolator is suitable for applications where the voltage or current output of the device is to be switched remotely, such as industrial control systems, motor control and lighting control.
The MOC3052S takes advantage of an optocoupler, integrating a highly stable Vishay Intertechnology optocoupler for solid-state control of TRIACs or Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCRs). It has an optically coupled transistor output, a zero-latching feature and a 5 kV RMS isolation. An internal photo-protective shield provides a high-voltage isolation, eliminating the need for external insulators. The optocoupler features two LED optical sources and one 500 V DRM rated photo-detector.
The MOC3052S has an operating temperature range between -40 and 100 degrees Celsius. It is offered in hermetically sealed SO6 packages, featuring integrated under-voltage lockout, a current limiting resistor, an adjustable sequence control and trigger outputs. The output pins have high-voltage isolation over a wide range of temperatures, enabling it to be used for two-wire control as well as zero-crossing applications. The MOC3052S has very low control current requirements, high-speed switching, and can be used in a variety of industrial, home appliance, and commercial lighting applications.
The optoisolator\'s working principle is best explained by imaging a light-emitting diode (LED) as a transmitting device and a phototransistor as a receiving device. When an electric current passes through the LED, it produces light that is directed to the collector of the phototransistor. The resulting electric current then flows through the collector/emitter circuit of the phototransistor. This output current then interacts with the SCR or TRIAC to activate its load, switching it on or off depending on the direction of the current. The LED also acts as a safety mechanism, keeping the load and the control circuit separated so they never interact with each other.
