Optoisolators are electronic components that isolate an input signal from an output signal, usually using a photodetector and an optically isolated photocoupler. The MOC3063SR2VM is a 600V, 4-pin sensitive gate AC optoisolator with Triac, SCR Output. This component generally finds application in AC switching systems, motor control, solid state relay circuits, and other applications which require high voltage isolation.

The MOC3063SR2VM consists of an LED emitter, gallium ayrsenide infrared sensitive detector, isolator and high voltage output switch. The LED emitter emits infrared light when an electrical signal applied to the control terminal. The infrared light is then detected by the photodetector which transmits a signal through an optically-isolated layer to the switching output terminal.

The switching output terminal is formed of a SCR or Triac and is connected in series with the load. When a signal is supplied to the SCR, the output voltage drops, allowing current to flow through the load. When the waveform of the input signal reaches zero, the Triac is opened and the current flow through the load stops.

The integral shield reduces the effect of EMI interference and electromagnetic compatibility. The MOC3063SR2VM provides maximum turn‐off delay times of 250 nsec at a holding current of 20 mA. The device has a maximum on‐state voltage drop of 1.1V at a peak forward load current of 800 mA, and a maximum leakage current of 10 µA.

The MOC3063SR2VM utilizes an isolated package to reduce crosstalk at high frequencies. This ensures high switching speeds while being insensitive to temperature, making it suitable for motor control and AC switching applications. The LED emitter part of the device requires a minimum drive current of 2.0mA and is typically operated at a supply voltage range of 5 to 16V. The photodetector part of the device works with a supply voltage range of 17 to 40V.

The MOC3063SR2VM is thus suitable for AC switching applications, such as solid state relays, motor control, environmental and safety control, and lighting control circuits. Applications that require high switching speed and accuracy, such as AC phase control, temperature control, and speed control circuits, would also benefit from the MOC3063SR2VM.
