MOC3073 is an optoisolator that contains a 6-pin dual-in-line plastic package (DIP) with a TRIAC SCR output. The sealed and solid DIP package enables the device to be relatively insensitive to shock and vibration. It provides galvanic isolation for up to 3000Vrms (Voltage Root Mean Square).

The galvanic isolation of the MOC3073 allows operation in noisy electrical environments where high common-mode noise voltages may be present in the signal path.
Its main applications include industrial and home automation, like motor control, level sensing, LED Drivers, AC Solid State Relays, and Voltage Regulators.

The MOC3073 contains a GaAs light emitting diode optically coupled with a relatively high speed silicon bilateral triac driver, which is driven by a low power MOSFET. It has a typical current transfer ratio of around 20mA.

The device contains a zero-cross detector and it is turned on at the zero-crossing of an AC power line cycle. The turn-on time is guaranteed to be within a given time when the voltage exceeds a specific value. Moreover, it can be used to reduce thermal EMF and ghosting effects.
