MOC3082FM optoisolator is a six-pin, sensitive gate optoisolator with a triac output. It is an integrated 6-pin optocoupler, developed to provide unparalleled performance and reliability in the control of resistive and inductive loads. The device consists of an infrared emitter that is optically coupled to a bidirectional triac. The MOC3082FM provides excellent noise immunity, excellent surge performance and high immunity to EMI. It is self-powered and extremely reliable in a variety of industrial and consumer-related applications.
Application
The MOC3082FM can be used for numerous applications, including home appliance control, motor drive, dimmers, heaters, convectors, fans, thermostats, office automation, portable lighting, battery chargers and portable power tools. Additionally, it is also suitable for control of universal motors, DC motors, and AC motors, as well as for constant voltage and current power applications.
Working Principle
MOC3082FM functions as an optically coupled digital isolator based on an optocoupler design. An infrared source is coupled with a triac, which can be controlled by applying a pulsed voltage to its corresponding pin. When the pulsed voltage is applied, the infrared source causes the gate of the triac to turn on, allowing current to flow through the AC load, thus providing AC power to the load. Conversely, when the pulsed voltage is returned to zero, the gate turns off, preventing current from flowing through the load, thus cutting off the AC power to the triac.
The MOC3082FM has an internal threshold voltage which helps to regulate current flow. When the applied voltage reaches the internal threshold, the gate begins to turn on, allowing current to flow through the load. The device can also be configured to act as an SCR output, simply by applying activate voltage to the SCR control pin.
