MXLLCE130AE3 Application Field

The MXLLCE130AE3 is suitable for use in audio, video, and Ethernet signaling applications. It is also suitable for Automotive applications (like CAN, LIN, MOST, and Ethernet links etc.) where the ESD voltage level is higher than the normal level. It can also be used in USB3.0 applications for data line protection.

MXLLCE130AE3 Working Principle

The working principle of the MXLLCE130AE3 is based on a protective element with a low-capacitance diode array. It consists of a combination of two P-type and two N-type transistors which are connected together in a square formation in order to form a bi-directional diode. The P-type transistors provide ESD protection while the N-type transistors provide electrical surge protection. Additionally, the MXLLCE130AE3 has a low capacitance which ensures minimal interference to the signaling channels.

When a fast electrical transient occurs, the low-capacitance diode array of the MXLLCE130AE3 instantly conducts current, thereby limiting the transient voltage and providing protection. When a faster ESD transient is encountered, the diode array will start to conduct before the transistors can react, limiting the applied voltage to a safe level. On the other hand, during an prolonged period of electrical over-voltage or surge, the transistors will respond faster than the diode array and draw current away from the protected circuit, thus providing protection.
