TVS - Diodes (Transient Voltage Suppression Diodes) are electronic components that can protect electronic circuits from possible damage caused by overvoltage or transient overvoltage. The device has an integrated inductor and capacitor to help absorb the extra energy.Despite their superior protection abilities, TVS diodes are relatively simple devices. They consist of a dielectric barrier layer that separates two metal contacts, typically made of aluminium and tin. A voltage interruption occurs when the two contacts are connected, therefore passing current.When an overvoltage occurs, the metal contacts become dissipative due to the resistance of the dielectric layer. This extra dissipation helps protect the circuit components by absorbing and dissipating the extra heat energy generated by the transient overvoltage.The MXSMCJ58AE3/TR is a TVS diode designed specifically for power supply transient protection, such as power line surges, ESD spikes, and power supply transients.
