TVS Diodes are often used in the protection of electronic components such as transistors, resistors and diodes from excessive transient voltages. The MXSMLJ100A series of transient voltage suppressors is designed to provide protection from transient over voltages that may be applied to sensitive electronic components. The MXSMLJ100A series is composed of two distinct sub-circuits. The first one is an avalanche diode, which can handle voltages up to 1000 volts and is designed to clamp high transient voltages. The second one is a varistor, which is designed to offer protection from intermediate transient voltages that do not damage the components. This combination of two sub-circuits ensures that the device is able to protect against both high and low transient voltages.
The MXSMLJ100A is fully compliant with RoHS directives and meets the requirement of SHT (Safety, Health and Technical) directives for electronic device safety. The device has a ultra-low capacitance of 8 pf and a low dynamic resistance of 0.14 Ohms. Its rated reverse breakdown voltage is 100V, and its peak surge current is 7500A (10 x 1000μs). This device is also capable of dissipating a maximum power of 7.5 W.

When a higher voltage is applied to the device, the varistor portion of the device conducts, which in turn limits the voltage at its output. This protects the sensitive components against excessive transient voltages.
