TVS – Diodes provide a broad range of transient voltage requirements for electronic devices and equipment. This includes protection from lightning strikes, power surges, static discharge, and electrical noise. The MXSMLJ150CAE3/TR is a uni-directional Transient Voltage Suppressor Diode (TVS) that offers a very low clamping voltage and excellent thermal stability. The MXSMLJ150CAE3/TR has been designed to protect 8- and 12-Pin interfaces, including lightning protection, in automotive, defense, and commercial applications. This diode provides a very low capacitance of 12pF to ensure low signal distortion. It is also designed to be used as an ESD suppressor for I/O port pins.
The MXSMLJ150CAE3/TR offers peak pulse current of 30A and working peak reverse voltage of 150V. It has excellent clamping characteristics and bipolar transient surge capability. The diode has a reverse-standoff voltage of 30V with a maximum reverse leakage of 5mA at 25°C, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. The diode is rated for operating temperatures between -55°C and 150°C, making it highly resistant to thermal shock.
The working principle of the MXSMLJ150CAE3/TR involves a p-n junction, a form of rectifier junction. When a transient voltage surge occurs, this p-n junction acts as a voltage-limiting device. The reverse breakdown voltage will determine the forward voltage drop, which is usually around 2V. The diode then acts as a short circuit, limiting the surge voltage to a safe level. This mechanism works both ways, providing protection against both low and high transient voltages.
