It is designed for a wide range of power management applications including microcontroller, network interface, motor control and battery-powered systems. The device is particularly well-suited for applications where low quiescent current consumption, low voltage drop and high current regulation accuracy are of paramount importance.NCV5501DT50G comes with an adjustable output voltage in the range of 1.3 V to 5.5 V. The device can provide up to 50 mA of current, and its dropout voltage is typically 0.4 V at full load. The device has built-in thermal shutdown protection and output short circuit protection.The device operates in a linear regulation mode; which is quite simple and economical as it does not require a complex feedback mechanism and it does not dissipate extra power. The basic principle of linear regulation is that the device maintains a constant output voltage with respect to the reference voltage regardless of the load current.
