NCV7704DQR2G is a highly integrated power management integrated circuit (PMIC) specially designed for applications requiring low RDS(on) in the battery path and high efficiency in the power path. This NCV7704DQR2G achieves optimal power efficiency in high current and low supply voltage environments such as smartwatches, wearable devices, small physical equipment and drones. It integrates high efficiency synchronous buck, LDOs and voltage supervisors. This meant to make the circuit board easier to design and reduce the volume, while supplying multiple channels to power or monitor the supply voltages. Therefore, this is a highly desirable and specialized device in the power management (PMIC) realm.
The first step of the NCV7704DQR2G working principle is how it transports from the governing power source to enable the battery pack. This is where the high-and low-side N-channel Enhanced MOSFETs come into play. The synchronous buck controller integrated the NCV7704DQR2G act as a step-down regulator that uses the NMOS transistor as the power device. This regulator reduces the voltage drop across the source and drain of the transistor, allowing for efficient current handling. The controller is also able to detect each transient coming from the operating system, activating the corresponding associated MOSFET pair when it sees a load change. The NCV7704DQR2G also has a built-in voltage supervisor that provides over-voltage, under-voltage, and open-wire protection, as well as protection from ESD strikes. This protection circuit is capable of alerting the system to out of bounds input conditions and will automatically shut down the entire device if it detects a fault condition. Additionally, the circuit can monitor the battery and supply voltages and provide an over-temperature alert signaling.
