NCV8873LEDBSTGEVB is an evaluation board designed to bring out the full potential of NXP\'s NCV8873 series LED driver ICs, which are efficient, state-of-the-art, low power, highly integrated LED driver segments with built-in LED boost controllers and LED basic switch handling.
The NCV8873 LEDBSTGEVB is designed to be used in many different applications such as automotive, industrial, and general purpose LED lighting and offers a modular, easy to use evaluation platform for evaluating the NXP’s NCV8873 series LED drivers and their features.
The NCV8873 LEDBSTGEVB consists of a regulated and fully monitored 12V external supply, a controller board featuring an NXP MCU and a daughter board featuring the NXP NCV8873 LED driver ICs. The board also features several LED sources on-board for testing to show how LED drivers can easily be used together with pre-existing LED light sources.

The NCV8873 LEDBSTGEVB applicabtion field mainly focuses on providing an easy and flexible platform for evaluating the NCV8873 LED drivers and their features. The board offers a variety of testable LED drivers with three different output currents (2A, 3A, and 4A) which can be easily connected to a variety of on-board LEDs. Also, the board comes with several pre-programmed optimized algorithms for these LEDs that can be used and adjusted to user’s different application requirements.
The NCV8873 can be used in both general-purpose and automotive applications. It is very suitable for applications such as interior and exterior lighting, signalling, instrument clusters, and beacons.
Working Principle
The NCV8873 series ICs are current-controlled devices which use a single output to provide a constant current for driving multiple LEDs in series. The current is controlled using a voltage applied to an Control Pin.
The ICs use a Programmable PWM Frequency and Internal Feedback Control Loop technology to aid in achieving the constant current requirement. They also feature protection against reverse connection of the outputs, over temperature, over current, and open circuit.
The NCV8873LEDBSTGEVB evaluation board provides an easy way to evaluate the capabilities of the ICs by allowing users to connect multiple LED light sources to the board and adjust the outputs to the desired current through the pre-programmed algorithms available.
The Evaluation board also allows easy access to the various parameters such as LED voltage, current, and temperature that can be monitored and adjusted through its controller board.
In addition to the above features, the NCV8873LEDBSTGEVB also includes an monitoring system which monitors the real-time performance of the LED driver and displays the performance data both numerically and graphically. This helps the user to quickly debug their applications and adjust the output current and other parameters to the desired value.
