NE556DR is an application field and working principle product within the Clockwork/Timing –Programmable Timers and Oscillators category of electronic components. To start with, NE556DR is an 8-pin dual timer integrated circuit (IC) with various features that make it adaptable to different timing applications. The components of the NE556DR are two 555 timer circuits contained in a single package which makes it one of the most widely available parts for the construction of electronic circuits.
With the help of NE556DR, it can be used for various applications such as measuring pulse widths, generating blinking lights, detecting magnetic fields and much more. Additionally, NE556DR can also be used to generate clock signals and other timing signals.
NE556DR works with a greater precision than the basic 555 timer’s output. This is because it has improved noise immunity, increased temperature stability and an adjustable frequency range of 1 Hz to 10 MHz. NE556DR also comes with an adjustable output amplitude and duty cycle. It offers a high level of sensitivity which means that it can easily detect faint signals.
The NE556DR works on the 555 timer’s principle, the 555 timer works on the concept of comparators and its basic operation can be described as follows. The 555 timer consists of two comparators, one that is used to compare a reference voltage (a voltage created by a voltage divider) and another one which compares the input voltage. When the input voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the output of the pin3 of the IC turns HIGH. Similarly, when the input voltage is lower than the reference voltage the output of the pin 3 of the IC turns LOW.
When it comes to configuring the NE556DR, it can be configured to operate as an oscillator with an adjustable frequency range of 1 Hz to 10 MHz by changing the output frequency and duty cycle. This can be done simply by changing the values of two capacitors (C1 and C2) and one resistor (R1) for adjustment of the frequency. Additionally, the output amplitude can be adjusted by using the adjustable resistor (R3) at pin 5 of the IC. Meanwhile, for displaying the output signal, a light emitting diode (LED) can be connected to the output pin (3) of NE556DR.
In conclusion, NE556DR is a dual timer IC which works on the 555 timer\'s principle and is applicable in several applications such as pulse width measuring, generating clock signals and detection of magnetic fields. It also has adjustable frequency range and adjustable output amplitude. Lastly, NE556DR can be easily configured and requires only few parts to build because it comes in an 8-pin dual timer IC.
