Optoisolators – Logic Output contain components that permit energy or electrical signals to pass between circuits while maintaining electrically isolated artificial circuits. Isolation is an important aspect of electrical systems because it can protect components and people from dangerous levels of voltage or current. These optoisolator circuits are of two designs, including linear optocouplers and logic output optocouplers. The OPI125TXV optocoupler is a logic output type, it utilizes a Schmitt trigger input and a 2,000-volt isolation rating.

The OPI125TXV comes in a 4-pin DIP package and uses an infrared LED to control a photodiode. The Hi/Lo Logic Output is used for interfacing to TTL and CMOS logic gates. The optoisolator has an 8-ms propagation delay that allows it have properties of both very low input current and output saturation voltage. The input current is 1.0 µA maximum while the saturation voltage !is 6V at a maximum DC load current of 10mA. Additionally, the OPI125TXV has a typical dispersion voltage of 10V, while remaining temperature stable between 25° and +85°C.

The OPI125TXV has several applications including protecting inputs for controlling motors in device like washing machines, fans, and pumps from damage due to voltage transients. Other applications may include isolating noisy switch outputs in industrial controls or increasing the noise immunity of shift registers for LED displays. The input side of the optoisolator is even more complex and includes a Schmitt trigger input which is used when an oscillating input signal is applied or when an AC input is present at the input of the optoisolator.

The working principle of the OPI125TXV is based around the infrared beam emitted from the infrared LED. When no voltage is applied to the LED, the LED does not emit any light. When a minimum DC supply voltage is applied to the LED, the LED emits infrared beams. The current then impacts an avalanche photodiode. This photodiode is connected to the input of the Schmitt Trigger. The Schmitt Trigger amplifies the input signal from the photodiode and then output it to the corresponding output port. The output signal is then used to switch devices on or off based on the output received.

The OPI125TXV logic output optocoupler is an invaluable tool for electrical engineers and computer scientists, as it provides a way to create a safe failure-free electrical setup. It is extremely reliable, and is designed to operate with very low input currents and DC load currents. The ability to switch devices on or off while maintaining electrical isolation is incredibly useful, allowing for devices to be controlled with greater accuracy and enhanced safety levels.
