Optoisolators - Logic Output represent a class of devices used to provide electrical isolation between two circuits. The device typically includes an LED controlling a phototransistor, and is capable of isolating an output signal from an input signal without allowing any DC current from flowing between two sides of the device. The OPI1290-080 is a Logic output optoisolator module. It is designed to provide electrical isolation, high speed response as well as very high noise immunity.
The OPI1290-080 is based on an infrared LED and a silicon phototransistor. The operational range of this optoisolator module is from 4V to 30V. It is compatible with various logic families such as TTL, HC and LSTTL, and its operating temperature range is from -55°C to 125°C. This module applies 3-Wire and 4-Wire logic outputs, and are mostly used in power control, communications equipment, consumer electronics, and data communication systems.
The circuitry of the OPI1290-080 consists of a gate input drive circuitry, an LED driver, an LED, an output switching circuitry, a voltage regulator and a phototransistor. In the OPI1290-080, the output switch is designed with a pnp transistor in its collector and a power transistor in its emitter. The LED driver uses N-channel enhancement-mode MOSFETs to drive the LED reliably and increase the light output from the transistor. The output signal from the module is coupled directly to the base of the output pnp transistor.
The OPI1290-080 isolates the output from the input signal through its optocoupler technology. When a voltage is applied to the LED, the phototransistor is activated and a logic level output is generated. This output can then be used to control the load, such as a mosfet or relay, connected to the output transistor.
